About the Author

Sam Smolik wrote The Daily Pursuit of Excellence to share the learnings from his 50-year career and some of the techniques used by his companies to achieve industry leading performance in safety, quality, reliability and customer experience. His focus is on leadership, people development, operational excellence, management systems, sustainable development and achieving superior performance.​

​

Smolik retired in 2017 as Senior Vice President of America’s Manufacturing at LyondellBasell Industries. He was previously Global Vice President of EH&S at The Dow Chemical Company, Royal Dutch Shell and LyondellBasell. Smolik and his colleagues developed and perfected many of the principles that are shared in this book. ​

Smolik graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. He now serves on the Board of Directors for various companies and organizations. He and his wife, Stephanie, live in Houston, Texas. ​
